For Immediate Release: October 28, 2025 IEMA-OHS to Appeal Denial of Federal Disaster Assistance for Illinois Summer Flooding Events July 25-27, 2025
Jersey & Calhoun Counties, Illinois – The Jersey and Calhoun County Emergency Management Agencies and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security announced plans to formally appeal the recent denial of a Presidential Disaster Declaration requested and submitted by Governor JB Pritzker. The request sought federal assistance for the severe storm and flooding event that impacted our Counties near the end of July.
The flooding caused by these storm systems resulted in widespread property damage. Residential homes, businesses, and local governments across the counties were severely impacted. Joint preliminary damage assessments were conducted in July and August by local, county, state and federal teams to evaluate the extent of the damage. Impacted jurisdictions included much of Jersey and Calhoun Counties.
As a part of this appeal process, additional virtual and in person assessments may be conducted to gather updated documentation and strengthen the State’s request for federal assistance. Residents and business owners in the affected areas are urged to submit a new or previously unreported information regarding their damages or ongoing needs, including:
- photos of damage
- documentation of alternative housing
- reports of illness or health impact
- mold remediation
- replacement of furnaces, hot water heaters, other major appliances
- “your story” (existing immediate needs) / affidavit
It is very important that residents report additional data through the Residential Self Assessment Survey. The survey will be available online Wednesday October 29th by visiting https://iemaohs.illinois.gov/recovery.html or by scanning the QR code below. Any residents who did not previously submit information are strongly encouraged to do so at this time. Additionally, public meetings will be held Thursday November 6th at 3PM or 6PM in the Jersey County Board Chambers at 200 N Lafayette St, Jerseyville. The deadline to submit new and updated data is November 7th.
