Duties of Department
- The Calhoun County, Illinois Highway Department and Unit Road District is responsible for the construction, engineering, planning and maintenance of 37 miles of county highways, 261 miles of township roads and 72 bridges in accordance with the Illinois Highway Code for the use of the traveling public.
- The County Engineer, manages the day-to-day operations of the County Highway Department and Unit Road District, and is committed to providing safe, efficient, and well-maintained county highways and township roads for the people of Calhoun County and the commuting public.
- The Calhoun County Highway Department also provides technical assistance to the Villages within Calhoun County. The County Engineer oversees any projects or facilities constructed or maintained with State Motor Fuel Tax funding.
- In addition, the Highway Department keeps records of contracts, purchases of materials, machinery, etc. and administers all highway and bridge funds for the County including all State, Federal, Local and Grant funding.
- The staff works closely with local citizens and agencies, as well as the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
