Mission Statement

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners, comprising the executive and legislative branches, is dedicated to effective governance in Calhoun County. Our mission is to responsibly oversee the county’s operations, focusing on key responsibilities such as crafting and managing the county budget, implementing taxation policies, maintaining vital county infrastructure including roads and bridges, preserving government records and buildings, and safeguarding the overall safety and health of the public. With a commitment to transparency, accountability, and public service, the Calhoun County Commission takes pride in its role as a dedicated steward, working tirelessly to serve and enhance the well-being of the citizens of Calhoun County, Illinois.

Duties of the County Board

Budget and Finance:

  • Formulating and overseeing the county budget.
  • Implementing taxation policies and financial planning.
  • Collaborating with the Finance Committee to address financial matters.

Infrastructure and Building:

  • Supervising and maintaining county roads and bridges with Calhoun Co. Engineer
  • Overseeing building construction, renovation, and maintenance.

Personnel:

  • Managing personnel matters for county employees.
    Collaborating with the Personnel Committee to address HR issues.
  • Planning Commission and Zoning Board:
    Overseeing land use planning and zoning regulations.
    Collaborating with the Planning Commission to guide development.

Ambulance Board:

  • Supervising ambulance services and emergency medical response.

Job Center Board:

  • Collaborating with the Job Center Board to address employment and workforce development.

Madison Co Economic Development Board:

  • Participating in the Madison County Economic Development Board to promote economic growth.

Solid Waste Management Board:

  • Overseeing waste management issues and initiatives.

Rural Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs Board:

  • Participating in the Rural Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs Board to address rural development issues.

Health Dept. Board:

  • Collaborating with the board, administrator and staff to help with public health policies and programs to better positively influence Calhoun County health issues.

Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC):

  • Collaborating with the LEPC to enhance emergency preparedness.

Illinois Valley Board:

  • Addressing regional issues and concerns through collaboration with the Illinois Valley Board.

ETSV/E911:

  • Supervising emergency telecommunications and E911 services.

Emergency Food and Shelter:

  • Collaborating with the Emergency Food and Shelter Board to address community needs during crises.
